I attended the Union Institute & Universities campus in Sacramento, California. The admissions personnel were excellent and the process of enrolling and selecting a program was pretty seamless. UI&I is a very good school but it is not cheap. However, their facility are very good and comprised mostly of adjunct professors who are still active in their field, so the information they provide remains relevant in the real world so to speak. As far as in the area of Sacramento, UI&U is jokingly referred to as “Cop University” as approximately 90% of their students are law enforcement, fire, or military personnel. Most of their students in Sacramento major in criminal justice, emergency services management, or public health. Overall I really enjoyed my time at UI&U, and I’m just thankful that my tuition was covered by the V.A. because the school is extremely expensive. (Thanks Uncle Sam)

I received by BA in 2004. I had a GREAT academic counselor who regularly communicated with me. They accepted all of my prior learning which sped things up. They even allowed me to create my own degree in Public Safety Administration, rather than "Criminal Justice." Having that on my resume has helped in a variety of job-seeking venues. Sometimes the online professors were slow to respond, but the "Learning Agreements" (required text/books research papers) were somewhat negotiable, which I liked. If you are okay with totally independent study--their BA program is a great option--although not the cheaptest.
